Excitement again because it's Oaks Day at Flemington Racecourse, the third of four big race days during the Melbourne Cup Carnival! Oaks Day means it's 'Ladies Day' where many showcase their feminine fashion style. Some of the outfits this year were lovely but the one below, to me, is exquisite:
Again, influenced by sixties fashion, this beautiful, simple and elegant dress is timeless. The choice of shoes and bag in demure nude or possibly the palest of 'blush' compliment the look flawlessly. The bohemian head wear doesn't detract from the outfit at all but a Lady from the '60's would have worn a beautiful hat:

I'm infatuated with the blue dress in the centre above. A stunning blue might be a great choice for Oaks/Ladies Day. The 'stole' on this lovely dress is so pretty and very chic, true '60's style. Again, I would prefer the hemline to be at least to the knee or mid calf. Fabrics for this dress could vary but I'm on a role with shantung silk. Imagine the lovely texture making the material shine! Oh, and don't forget the three quarter length gloves with bracelet, a stunning hat, gorgeous shoes and handbag. Perfection!
Isn't the above fabric just beautiful? There is nothing I like more than a luxurious fabric with texture and dimension. I think 1960's fashion was very much about this.
The dress in the photo below is reminiscent of the 1970's to me.
With the choker at the neck and bell sleeves, the above dress is definitely influenced by the 60's and 70's and I have to say, it's really lovely. The addition of the 'bohemian' head dress and nude shoes compliment the look.
The above is a variation of a bell sleeve, with the flaring from the arm hole to the elbow. I really like the pink version. Very pretty!
So, what would I choose for Oaks Day? Well...
I'd go for something like this I think. It's sleek and the frills at the hemline are very feminine. The middle version is my choice and I'm quite enamoured by the citrus colour. The fabric might be a lovely crepe or a good quality cotton mix. And think of accessories! Such fun!
